Joi Smith, Vice President & COO
Joi Smith joined Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis as vice president and chief operating officer in December 2008. As COO, Joi is responsible for building organizational and human capacity to provide quality Girls Inc. programs to girls within a four county service area. In 2010, Girls Inc. reached a significant milestone in growth of services to girls with over 4,000 girls enrolled in programs. Joi continues to implement operating strategies for program expansion as outlined in the organization’s 2011-2013 strategic plan.
Joi brings more than 19 years of experience in youth services at both the local and national levels. Prior to joining the organization she served as an associate director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, where she worked with affiliates in an 11-state region to support organizational development and program performance management. Immediately prior to her position at Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Joi was program director for the former Big Sisters of Central Indiana, overseeing the quality growth in services to girls through one-to-one mentoring relationships.
Joi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from DePauw University and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She volunteers on the national board of Safe Sitters and serves her community through participation in various community organizations.
