What is a Touchstone?
A touchstone is a small tablet of black stone used to compare precious and base metals, by analyzing the streak when each is rubbed across its surface. In use since 500 B.C., touchstones revolutionized the concept of the value of currency.
A more modern definition speaks to a standard of quality by which others are measured. This "setting of the bar" embodies the spirit of the women who are honored each year with a Touchstone Award. Since 1987, we have recognized excellence in some of greater Indianapolis’s most strong, smart, and boldSM women with awards named after the touchstone.
