Ten Reasons to Volunteer for Girls Inc.
Mollie Hicks, Volunteer Engagement Specialist

As the volunteer sign-up for winter programs quickly approaches on Dec. 3, I found myself thinking of all the great reasons to volunteer with Girls Inc. The list below is a compilation of the reasons I think it’s important to volunteer. I’ve collected only ten of the many reasons to volunteer for Girls Inc., so if you have others, please add them in a comment below!

Top Ten Reasons to Volunteer

10. Volunteering is a great resume builder for young professionals, especially when it’s a regular commitment.

9. It’s a rewarding way to fill your time – instead of heading home after work and sitting on the couch, you are making a difference.

8. Brush up on your own knowledge of our program topics, such as economic literacy, conflict resolution, and media analysis.

7. Set a good example for others around you – by volunteering for Girls Inc. you are showing other women that it is important to help your community and inspire girls.

6. It’s good for you – studies show that volunteering reduces stress and gives you feelings such as joy and optimism.

5. Gain professional experience by learning how to present to a group, work as a team, plan ahead, lead an activity, and more.

4. Become passionate about a cause by learning more about their mission – ours is to inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

3. Learn more about yourself by doing things you have never done before, like leading a program that empowers girls.

2. Network with other volunteers – because you lead a program in pairs, you might find a lifelong friend.

1. Make a difference in the lives of girls in greater Indianapolis.

What would you add to the list?
