Summer Camp Memories
Jessica Morris, Program Support Coordinator

The summer of 2011 flew by all too soon. However, in those short weeks we managed to fit in many amazing activities for our girls. Check out our summer camp photo album for a glimpse of these activities!

The girls expressed themselves through dance and poetry with artists from Young Audiences. They learned about the economy and demonstrated that knowledge during our Economic Literacy Carnival. They explored different career options and thought about the steps they could take to prepare for those careers during Lunch Bunch programs with the Girls Inc. board of directors and accountants from Katz, Sapper, and Miller. They also went on several exciting field trips, including an Indiana Fever basketball game and the EcoLab at Marian University. The girls got a firsthand look at how exciting science and math can be during a demonstration by the Cyber Blue Robotics Team from Perry Meridian High School. Finally, the summer drew to a close with the girls attending the Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis Touchstone Awards to share with the guests some of the incredible things they learned at summer camp!

Summer Camp, By the Numbers:

  • 26 girls ages 6-8, 30 girls ages 9-11, 26 girls age 12-14 = 82 girls total attended 2011 Summer Camp
  • 36 fun, hands-on programs completed
  • About 1,700 snacks devoured by active girls
  • 12 field trips around Indianapolis
  • $525 “Girl Bucks” spent at Economic Literacy Carnival
