Outreach to Girls
What’s New In Outreach?
During the summer of 2010, Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis is "going green" with outreach in our Operation Smart program! In these workshops, girls will engage in hands-on math, science, and art while learning about the earth and how we can better take care it. These workshops will be one session, as opposed to our typical six-session format for outreach programs. These programs will be available at local libraries and community centers throughout greater Indianapolis.
Outreach Is All About Collaboration!
In 2006, Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis made a significant shift in the way we reach girls, transitioning from owning two small clubs to an innovative outreach model built completely upon collaboration. Our outreach service delivery model allows us to achieve more widespread impact. By collaborating with other community organizations, we build off of each partner's strengths. Girls Inc.'s strength lies in our carefully-researched, outcome-based curriculum, and trained facilitators, while our partners' strengths lie in their daily interactions with girls, their physical presence in their neighborhoods, and their ability to assess their girls' needs. Thus, our programming is complementary to that which is being offered by other youth-serving organizations in greater Indianapolis. By partnering with other organizations, we supplement the work of our peers and provide girls with important messages of gender equity and empowerment that are often missing from other curricula and youth-serving programs.
In 2009, Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis had over 2,600 girls enrolled in our programming!
